It seems not a lot of coaching professionals outside of India are willing to be hired by the BCCI as the advertisement released by the Cricket board for the post of the head coach has not drawn much interest from overseas.
The India coaching job is one of the most lucrative jobs in world Cricket and thus, a number of top coaches from around the world were believed to put their names forward for that, but, so far, only a couple of applications have come from the foreigners.
The coaches are now increasingly getting hesitant in associating themselves with any of the international teams because of the devotion of time it requires.
They would rather take up the opportunities coming from the franchises of the twenty 20 leagues as that sort of job would keep them away from home only for a period of 6 to 8 weeks.
People like Tom Moody and Gary Kirsten who have had immense success coaching at the international level with Sri Lanka and India are now involved only in the leagues.
While, Kirsten was the head coach of the Delhi Daredevils in the 2014 and the 2015 Season, Moody has been in the same capacity at the Hyderabad franchise for the past three years.
Coming back to the point of the next Indian coach, the lack of the efficient candidates might force the BCCI to let the charge be in the hands of Ravi S who has been with the team for the past one and half years, not in the role of the coach, but, the director.
The director’s role was more or less the same to that of the head coach, but, it was not a long term arrangement as the appointment of the head coach would be.
