Rashid, Mujeeb and Mohammed Nabi, they have played

Dinesh Karthik reckons that experience matters a lot in test match cricket and experience is not something which a player can easily achieve. It comes with playing more and more cricket which is the reason why Afghanistan despite having all the talent in their spin department still lag behind India in red ball cricket.

As per Karthik, red ball cricket doesn’t only mean test cricket. It also means first class four day matches. Somebody like Kuldeep Yadav in the Indian squad, he is not vastly experienced in test cricket, but he has played so much of first class cricket that he has got a fair idea of how to go about his business in red ball cricket which is not the case with the Afghanistan bowlers.

The likes of Rashid, Mujeeb and Mohammed Nabi, they have played a number of T20 games all around the world and has decent exposure to white ball cricket, but the same can’t be said about them in red ball cricket. All three of them probably wouldn’t have played as many first class games together as Kuldeep alone has played and Kuldeep is actually the least experienced Indian spinner. So there is massive difference between the two teams in terms of experience and experience does play a key role in the longest format.

Karthik however backed the Afghanistan spinners to do well in red ball cricket as they move forward and get more experienced. The Indian wicketkeeper reckons they have enough skills to become good test bowlers, for them it’s just a matter of finding their feet in this format.

“I am sure they would be better bowlers by the start of the next test match than they are now. The kind of improvement they have shown in white ball cricket, there is no reason why they can’t do it in red ball cricket.” Karthik was quoted saying by Times of India.
